An Inconvenient Truth.

Imagine if Al Gore did a movie about the intelligence of the average American teenager and how it has been changing over time?

What has happened to our young people? Have we coddled them so much with no chores and unlimited recreation that they have become intellectually morbidly obese?

I've been active here for two or three years and I've seen plenty of hateful posts, provocative posts, posts that make you think, etc... but that post might just be the dymbest post I've seen here. I am flabbergasted that someone of college aige -- or so he says -- could be that clueless.

I think that whoever first coined the saying "as dumb as a post" must have had THAT post in mind!

Yeah teenagers can get very stupid sometimes. And then they say that little kids are annoying.

I agree, and I think that alot of it has to do with the educational system. We've taken arts and music programs out of schools, and therefore taken away one of the best tools for teaching critical thinking skills.

Most of the educational process now seems to be rote learning. Basically, memorizing facts and figures and regurgitating them on demand. It's really the lowest form of learning and requires the least effort from both the teacher and the student.

I see this all the time. At my office we always have 1-3 college interns working for us. They're generally very good kids, but one thing I've noticed is that when I give them something to do, they will do it perfectly if (and only if) I give them step by step directions. If I just tell them, "Get this done," and leave it to them to figure out how, they are lost. And these are "smart" kids. If I told you the names of the schools they go to, you'd know the names and you might even be impressed. But yet and still, they can't figure things out on their own. If you don't tell them, or give them some kind of formula to apply to the situation, they're stymied.

Actully most the obese people are the ones on the bus because they cannot fit in a conventional car.

And your first responder furthers the "myth"............

Perhaps you could use words that do not require actual thought to convey your point; "they have become dumb as a rock."

Just noting...........:B)

I have no idea. Sadly, I fall into this age gap. My best friend and I were discussing this last night. Her fiance is a high school history teacher and he deals with some real morons. Also, this is a pointed at college-aged kids, but there is a university near where I live that CANNOT fail the students. Can't. Their reasoning when they explain this to professors is because people pay too much money to go there to be failed. WTF? I mean, a "D" is just as bad as an "F", but what's with this?
