Hit the Ground Running.

How long does it usually take for a new technical employee(engineer, software engineer, etc.) to get familiar to the new environment and hit the ground running?

a month or 2 depending on if they have to learn the system or are already fairly adept. With a job like the one you noted there is a lot of repitition so I would expect a fairly quick learning curve with most seasoned professionals.

I've found what people from that grouping normally lack are social cognition skills.
