In extreme cases of murder with depraved cruelty, I'm for it.

Crimes of passion, such as someone shooting a cheating spouse in the heat of the moment? I don't think that warrants the death penalty.

Life in prison is a much worse punishment than a shore end.

HOWEVER, the American Injustice System (AIS) has not conducted a fair trial in several decades. Lies, fraud, emotions, and perjury are stock in trade of the AIS. Most "criminals" have been framed by falsified "evidence" and emotional falderal.

What we need is a moratorium on AIS criminal "trials" until some semblance of fair justice can be restored.

There are some criminals whose penchant for dastardly deeds exceeds any limits we could possibly imagine. For them, heinous replaces the commonplace. For the safety and peace of mind for the rest of us...capital punishment. There are those who habitually destroy most of everything they encounter, occasionally taking a life here or a life there... life imprisonment with no parole.

There are some who are members of organizations designed to defraud, extort and demean. Some jail time.. lotta community service. Illegal drug distribution: Bracelets, constant parole activity, community service on a grand scale. Everyone else, bracelets, community service and restitution. Everyone takes anti criminal classes. Until his or her sentence is complete. Each can choose a trade and receive training.

We need to implement this kind of treatment instead of constant incarceration where nobody does anybody any good.

I am not AGAINST it, lemme put it that way. I don't necessarily think we have to make it so humane. Like hey, you killed a bunch of babies and you're a bad bad person, but we're gonna give you a steak dinner and make you real cozy and just let you drift off to sleep. It's almost like we're being too nice to them.

It's hard to say how I feel about it. I think of capital punishment as an easy way out for the prisoner. But then again, I think of it as one less burden for society. If there could be some kind of compromise, like a slow tortuous death, then I would be satisfied.

anti capital punishment for a multitude of reasons

and in a practical argument cost,

in a conscientious argument ...look how many people in just the

past few years have been released from prison after 18-20

because it was found they were innocent.

The law is not fair..got money commit the crime get a slap

don't have money commit have the crime and get the maximum

sentence.

Cowards get the death penalty
and I could go on.

In theroy, I am all for it.
But in practice, no. It is not executed fairly - the richer you are, the less likely you are to get the death penality or even be found guilty (can you say O.J.??). And the Judical system can never completely be assured that you are 100% executing the person who committed the murder. Too many people are being shown to be innocent years later after DNA testing. And if we execute ONE innocent person, it is one too many.
Yes, I believe an eye for any eye...and if we could find the best way to make sure it is done fair and exact...sure. But we can't.
Life without the possibility of parole. Throw away the key.

Unless the offender can be proved beyond ANY doubt to be guilty, I'm against it. "Reasonable" doubt is not enough to kill someone.

And I think life in prison is more of a punishment, anyway.

Reserved for the ones who murdered in the first degree.

Aside from that, I am against the death penalty.

I don't like the idea BUT it is absolutely necessary to keep people/psychos under control. If no death penalty criminals still kill innocent people. I believe, if criminal is caught for the first time, one of his limbs should be cut off as an example for everyone else.

- Response by chichek, A Thinker, Female, 29-35, Moscow, Other Profession

I have always been for it. But I do not think it should be sterile like it is. An eye for an eye, ESPECIALLY when the crime is against a child or some helpless person.

I'm for it.

I guess that makes me a terrible Christian (not that I've ever been all that good at it anyway).

None of them want to say it but I really don't have a problem with getting rid of cruel murderous poor excuses for human beings.

I'd sleep better at night knowing that he/she is gone from this earth never to do harm again than know that he/she still breaths.

Some people are just hopeless...it's a harsh fact.

Two rights don't make a wrong. By putting a murder to death they are proving that murder is okay.

- Response by An Alternative Girl, Female, 22-25

Rating Received:

It's wrong. It accomplishes nothing. It doesn't deter crime. We are the only civilized country that practices it, and we have far higher crime rates. It's based on the assumption that two wrongs make a right and it's flat out barbaric. It also puts FAR too much faith in the ability of the state to determine who commits crimes and who doesn't. The justice system is full of flaws and innocent people have been punished and put to death. I completely oppose the death penalty. I used to support it, but I grew out of it, just like wetting the bed.

- Response by jophus, A Rebel, Male, 29-35, Artist / Musician / Writer

Rating Received:

Pretty strongly against it in principle, and very outspoken about my position, but I also understand why victim's families might want vengeance. There are some crimes so heinous that it is hard to shed a tear for such people (e.g., Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy).

Also, while I don't think this is what properly could be called the "death penalty," taking out a known terrorist like Bin Laden, if one had the chance...I would not be opposed to that.
