Does anybody actually know what's in the healthcare reform bill??

By the time it comes up for a final vote this weekend, health legislation will be twice as long, and half as intelligible, as Tolstoy's "War and Peace."

News coverage of healthcare reform has focused as much, or more, on political wrangling than on substance.

So here's a question. Everyone's got an opinion...but does anyone actually UNDERSTAND the proposal?

When did it become a crime to become a big business in America?

Under the Obama healthcare plan, businesses are not required to offer health insurance coverage. Instead, employers are hit with a fee if the government subsidizes their workers' coverage.

$2,000-per-employee fee would be assessed on the company's entire work force, minus an allowance. Companies with 50 or fewer workers are exempt.

Here is my question. This is but one of many instances where the government unfairly screws large, successful companies that put a lot of people to work in favor of "small business."

Let me remind you, the goal of a small business most of the time is to become a big business. Is it right to penalize success???

Is Obamacare the end of the democratic party in the foreseeable future?

How long will it take Republicans to undo it, once they take back power?

None of the Founding Fathers were atheist

All of them believed in God or some higher power. They did believe in the separation of religion and government. Religion has no part in the government.

I just wanted clear that misconception that one or some of them were atheists.

How the "Great" was put into Great Britain

I noticed a few people seem to think Britain was called "Great Britain" because the British were trying to boast about the British Empire, but it's not where there name comes from.

Allow me to educate u......are u sitting comftably?.....then we shall begin.......

Great Britain does not refer to the country of Britain, but rather to the island upon which it is located. It is the largest of the islands, which contains England, Scotland and Wales.

The Romans first named Britain 'Britannia' when they first sailed there around 0CE. At the time, they named two places 'Britannia' - 'Briannia Major' (Great Britain) and 'Britannia Minor' (Lesser Britain) which was located in the north west of France.

Centuries later when the Romans had long gone, the French language emerged and 'Britannia Minor' came to be called 'Bretagne' (modern day Brittany). After the Norman invasion of England in 1066CE French became the de-facto language of the ruling classes - so 'Britannia Major' came to be known by the French 'Grande Bretagne'.

After a few centuries Latin and French were replaced by Middle English as the de-facto language and 'Grande Bretagne' was translated into English as 'Great Britain' - and the name has stuck ever since.

So, to put it simply:

Albion > Britannia Major > Grande Bretagne > Great Britain

The name is about 1,500 years older than the Empire.

Update: March 19, 2010.
England + scotland + wales = Great Britain England + scotland+ wales + northern island = United kingdom.

Let's dissect this post, shall we?

An anonymous poster says he is a Catholic. Then he asks how to keep his mouth shut about gay marriage. And then he goes "because I don't want to be looked down upon by educated and professional people." Oh, do tell! You mean "educated and professional people" are all pro-gay marriage? Thanks for letting us know, Anonymous Catholic who is Ashamed of Being Against Gay Marriage!

I should write an anonymous post similarly, like "I am a liberal, how can I learn not to ever question the views of conservatives? Because even though those are my beliefs, I am tired of looking foolish around everyone in the world. Please help me learn. Thanks."

I am a catholic. How do I respectfully keep my mouth shut when asked my opinion about gay marriage?

These are my beliefs and I dont want to change them, but in this age and time is extremely looked down to not be pro-gay marriage, especially in educated and professional circles.

Here we go again and again.

We also own a lot of their debt and a lot of other countries debt. We own a lot of real estate in other countries as they own here. Great to ring the warning bells and all but being in debt is the same as those owning the debt. One would think they control the debtors but the debtors also control them unless they do not want their money back. Sit back and chill in 2 billion years the sun will nova and all countries will have a fire sale on their debt.

Americas Debt to Great Britain.

How long do you think it will take for America to pay back Great Britain its $244 Billion Dollar debt plus its intrest?

U.S. owes Great Britain 244 Billion dollars. Japan, China, and Britain owns a lot of the U.S's debt by lending America money through buying US Treasury Bonds. By buying the bonds, they loan America money that must be paid back with interest.America is relying heavily on other nations to maintain there economic stability.
