slightly annoyed but maybe not enough to care

My old boss has "requested" me as a friend on facebook. I graduated high school with her. We have a mutual best friend. When I worked with/for her, I picked up shifts whenever she called and had forgotten to schedule someone (she was a new manager). She also fired me--cause a lot of stir, as she made up a story that did not add up and caused much speculation among the employees. She even posted a note on the back board saying I had been fired and the reason "why". Facebook friends? Please. Like I want her reading my personal information when we have no current communication and she fired me. What could be some possible reasons for this?

Why is unemployment asking people to pay money back?

A friend came to me to find out what she can do.
I don't know the whole story but I guess she has not received any umemployment benefits and that they are asking her to re-pay $2600.00 in which she does not have. They told her she can appeal this by sending it in writing. What's the deal? How does this whole unemployment work anyways? I think it's pretty shitty if they are offering this, but asking people to pay them back at the last minute, I didn't think it was a loan deal.

Do you ever regret the career that you choose and wish you could have done something else?

At the moment I specialize in IT, but don't feel cut out for it.

I'd like to do something in multimedia and perhaps do a masters degree in something along those lines in the future.

At the moment I'm teaching myself Photoshop and other applications to become a digital artist.

Is anyone in similar situations?

Not sure what to do in this situation.....

I work for a small family owned company, about 13 employees and for the most part enjoy it. There are just certain things about my boss that really get on my nerves. I am a college grad and was hired to manage accounts, so I was hired to do financial statements and returns for about 60 clients, no where in the description was there to be my bosses slave.

There are a few others that work in the department I do and do the same thing(and hired after me) BUT my boss always seems to ask me to do things that I think he should do himself. He will be sitting at his desk working on personal things (ie. his sons boy scout meetings and ordering new appliances for his home and I can tell that is what he is doing because he is on the phone for hours a day discussing these things in front of the employees)and then ask me to retrieve a file for him. He sits next to me and the filing cabinet is the same distance away and there are employees that have been hired after me and that are under me that he won't ask. I will be working on a account and have to stop and drop everything because he will not get up and go get a file. I was also not hired nor trained to collect outstanding balances from our clients which he has always done in the past. Well, now I find that he just tells me to call clients and ask them for their unpaid balances, even if I don't have the rapport with them. I have also been asked to do personal banking for him when I do banking for the office because it is convenient for me to do it when I am there. I just get annoyed because I am busy working while he is busy with personal things and then he asks me to do something like get up and get him a file or make him labels, all things he is capable of and has time to do but is too lazy to do it. I don't know what to do. Do I keep my mouth shut and grin and bear it? Do I try and talk to him? If so what do I say and how do I say it in a respectful manner? Help!

Question about Carleton University in Ottawa?

I'm considering going into the social work program at Carleton University to obtain my bsw in social work in about three years. I currently live in Quebec and I was wondering if I have to complete Cegep/college courses in social work/service first. Because I was on the website for Carleton and it said there are no pre-requisites for the social work program? What do I do?

How many of you are self-employed?

It's not all it's cracked up to be. Your bills need to be paid on time and your clients are often late paying you. It's an ongoing battle of cash flow.

Are there unemployed individuals out there?

I'm going on 1 year and honestly I think I lost hope at this point. I have a degree from a good school and over 8 years experience...The only thing that is keeping me sane is being a regular at my gym and getting support from family, Is anyone out there in the same boat? How are you dealing with all of this?

My boss is in deep doo-doo and is blaming me. Mon. and Tues. she was hostile to the point I'm documenting it all. Here's what happened:
She is the manager and her daughter works there too.
Payroll goofed up and didn't take out any deductions for health ins. on my check. Before I even knew that, the daughter called me and said "jen is going to be calling you. YOU DON'T HAVE HEALTH INS BECAUSE YOU WENT UNDER 40 HOURS." So I
call Jen, and it was a simple error. She apologized and I said "It's okay, no harm done, I'm just glad I still have the benefits cause I was
told I didn't." She then asked who told me that and I told her. I HONESTLY didn't think anything of it. I genuinely like the daughter and enjoy working with her--I was not intending to get anyone in trouble.
So the manager confronts me and says "You got my daughter in trouble" and has been really nasty and hostile since. I heard through the grapevine that manager and Jen had it out, and obviously it's the
manager who's in trouble.
Any advice? Sat and Sunday the 3 of us are the only
ones scheduled. I am really dreading it....
