Do you think the "race card" is appropriate here or not?

In Jan 2007, in Kennett, Missouri, Heather Ellis, a 21 year old black college student, was shopping with her cousin at Wal-mart and they both stood in different lines, her cousin's line was faster so Ellis switched lines.

This angered other customers. Ellis shoved merchandise belonging to another customer on the conveyor belt to make room for hers. The ensuing arguments were described as Ellis going "ballistic in a profane tirade"

The police were called. Ellis had paid in cash but the cashier refused to give Ellis her change, waiting for the police. The police arrived and Ellis confronted them with profane language. Police say Ellis repeatedly kicked one officer in the shin and another in the face.

Ellis says that the police officers addressed her "with a series of racial remarks that included the N-word and everything you can imagine." and "Go back to the ghetto."

Her felony trial started yesterday on charges of assaulting police officers, resisting arrest and disturbing the peace.

There are five police officers. They're all saying the same thing. There are at least four other witnesses within the Wal-Mart store. They're all saying the same thing. Two years ago she was offered but refused a plea bargain under which she would receive probation if she dropped her complaint against the police.

This seems just like the Prof Gates case where a person feels they did nothing wrong and that they are being discriminated against based on their race.

What do you make of this?

Jobs, Politics and the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown . . . . .

First off, let me just preface this by saying that this is a non=partisan post and when I mention"the Government", you may feel free to include your villain of choice....

Now . . . . . . . .

WHY IS IT, that ever since the economy took its precipitous downturn, that the Government has made such a big deal about how many jobs it's either created or saved, when the reality is, that over 90% OF these so-called "jobs" are only temporary?

Highway jobs are linked to temporary highway projects and, once they're done, the "new" workers will all qualify for government-sponsored unemployment, at government salary rates....

As far as the Private Sector goes, I haven't heard of a single job "created" or "saved" as a result of the big Government bailouts / programs / stimulus, etc. - - - In fact, what I am seeing (all too personally, to be sure), is a further decline in the number of jobs out there AND, considering that they say 10% of Americans are now out of work, once you take into account that this number referred mainly to 2-worker households--- meaning, that if you look at single-worker households, this really means that almost 20% of us are either un- or underemployed, now.... that's a full FIFTH of this country, kids!!!

Corporations have downsized and, even once recovery begins, they realize they actually CAN get "more for less", in that their staff are already accustomed to sucking it up and working harder for the same amount of money - - meaning that the company no longer HAS to hire back those theyt let go, and then they KEEP the profits made or saved, by NOT HIRING additional staff!

Yeah, yeah - - it's fair game in a capitalist society; I know . . . . but the sad truth, is that we are entering an age of radically different norms for the working world, and we are ALL going to feel the pinch, in ways we haven't even yet realized!!!

AND to top it off, we're gonna' overhaul healthcare to bring 94% of people under some form of coverage, likely LESS quality than what we now have, at a staggering cost that we will all have to shoulder the burden of. Jay Leno was right--- the Government did such a fantastic job of running the Post Offices, let's give 'em healthcare, too!!!!

Whether you are republican OR democrat or Independent, you HAVE to admit that we are in the beginning stages of a vicious spiralling circle of debt, increasing taxes and lower quality goods & services produced by a more overworked workforce than ever before in our nation's history....

What will this mean for America, and for the world????

Locally, I predict a staggering rise in property and violent crime within the next three years, an increased reliance on unemployment insurance and the fraud of same (right after we saw "Workfare" become successful in removing over 50% from the welfare rolls, by the way), longer waits and worse healthcare and an increased mortality rate for all age groups EXCEPT infants....

Yeah - - - this ain't the Garden of Eden baby, and this ain't the Summer of Love (Blue Oyster Cult). . . we are entering an age of Fear and Loathing that even ol' Hunter S. Thompson couldn't begin to dream of in his wildest mescaline trips.... and we're all gonna' get to watch it unfold, right in front of our eyes, while the majority of Americans just continue to wear their blinders and preach pie-in-the-sky philosophies that have, time and again, been debunked, disproven and, unfortunately, disastrous for each and every place that's tried it before....

I'm not blaimng Obama or Bush for this . . . I'm blaming you and me, collectively, for NOT standing up to this governmental largesse and nonsense and writing, calling and calling OUT our Congressional delegates and saying, "NO!!!--Don't steal ANY MORE OF MY MONEY from an already overburdened system, you dolts!!!"....

If it ain't broke don't fix it - - - well, it IS and HAS BEEN "broke" for a long time now, and I do give an "E" for "Effort" that they're trying to do something about it, but change for the sake OF change is never a good thing, and we're about to be taught that lesson, once again. . . . . . Maybe this time, we'll internalize the lesson and remember it, instead of procrastinating and pushing off our own responsibilities onto a government that knows even less than they care.....

What do you think God thinks of porn, the industry and strip clubs & want Christians to do?

Ok, so if your feel you are Christian and believe in God and your in a committed relationship how do you feel about porn viewing alone and going to places like strip clubs? I mean do you find it acceptable to do these things when in a committed relationship? If so, why and if not why?

The Bible is full of contradictions and hard to understand really. I mean what did the words say that if you lust after someone in your thoughts, you have committed adultry in your mind mean? What would God think of the porn industry and the people within it. Is he upset if you watch it becuase you are supporting something he doesn't find acceptable? As far as strip clubs, I can't see him accepting that at all because I can't see God saying yeah men and women, go off for an evening with the intent of lusting after other nakedd women or men. What does God think of these things and if you believe in him, what should you be doing or not doing regarding these things?

I only want answers from people that really believe in God and you don't have to go to church to do that, but I want people that really have a moral outlook based on God.

Personally I am moral and belive very much in God and what I feel he wants. Strip clubs I think are wrong based on the fact that you should not be going somewhere for the purpose of lusting after other people man or women by viewing them naked and getting sexually aroused by them. If you do go, I feel it is totally wrong to allow the stripper to touch you at all or you them as the whole concept of relationships is look but don't touch and that applies I think to this situation as well. People always say well I really visually thought she/he was a turn on and most partners would say look all you want, but do not touch and why people think it is ok because it is a strip joint to let a stripper rub all over your man or women is beyond me.

Porn for me is another double edge sword. Did God really intend sex to be a business of people doing it that don't care about each other and to make money for people to watch? I feel alot of people are addicted to the internet porn and does that speak volumes to us? I really want people to answer if they really have a strong moral frame of mind. If your liberal and God is not that big in your life we don't view life the same and I respect very much your point of view as well but I am looking for answers from men and women of my mindframe.

What was this all about!!?

I was at Duane Reads last weekend to purchase something to wash my face. I waited in line to pay for my item and the cashier treated me like shit the whole time. It was so weird that everyone including the other cashiers were staring at her while slowly working. The expressions on their faces were toxic how she was treating me. It didn't bug me at the time but several days later it hits me! So the bitchy cashier says next and the whole time she did not make eye contact and was being all nice and helpful to someone else who was in line and then she would snicker at me. The other cashier who is very nice that I know looks at me and her like oh my gawd. The customer who was siting right next to me was freaked out. She continued to give me a nasty attitude and while I swiped my ATM card she slowly gave me my receipt and just stared at me with disgust and eyes me up and down. I was waiting for her to put my product in my bag to give it to me but she took awhile to do that and then sort of snickered...wow what was that!!? Did she treat me like that because I was white...well other customers were white. Did she treat me like that because I was pretty? What did I do? I have done nothing to her and I don't even know her. I am use to girls attacking me because I am pretty and gotten to the point that it does not bother me because I know they are insecure with themselves to beat down others to make them feel better. It is just said. The other cashier who was helping her customer was watching her the whole time. Not finishing her duty with her customer who was also watching her in disgust...so everyone thinks she is disgusting...so what was her problem?

Rude brother. Any suggestions?

Tonight my boyfriend, his brother, and I drove to Kentucky to visit their parents before Thanksgiving. His brother and I have many different opinions but generally we get along. I mostly try not to talk politics since we have completely different view points and he's a person who feels it's his way or the highway.

Anyway, during the car ride he saw one of my books about feminism I'm reading for a college project and he starts spewing out sexist jokes because "he can." He also called me a nut just because of the book I was reading.

I asked him politely not to make those jokes as I don't make fun of him, but then both him and my boyfriend were in on it. My boyfriend was like, "Oh, he's just egging you on." and encouraging his brother.

Frankly it pissed me off. I'm not rude to him but it seems almost every time I'm with my boyfriend's brother he's rude to me.

Any suggestions? Thank you.

Update: November 19, 2009.
Typically I don't comment and I ignore them. It's not that he "knows" it bugs me because I ignore it. When I talk to my boyfriend about it he gets pissy. It's always a one sided thing, and their always right. I'm sticking to my guns though, I don't tolerate that type of behavior. Thanks for responding.

Do you know what a Ponka calendar is. It doesn't end in 2012 and it's an ancient calendar.

The Ponka calendar follows the cycles of the moon and the natural cycles of the earth...such as the tides...and other energy levels.

Got to give praise to people who have figured "it" out

After 6 months of being in agony, watching bubbling medical professionals give contradictory advice in the same breathe. Wishing more times I can count that I was dead - I have to say the arabs (islam) do have it fifured correctly in their view of God.

We say "God is merciful"

They say "God be merciful"

They have it correct - God has absolutely no love for the human race - that God will make each and every human suffer until he or she dies.

It's not the human race that have sinned - God has more than shown - he has sinned against us!

Give the gift that REALLY helps...

I hear a lot of "pray for so and so" and "pray for me" and "I'll pray for you". Well since Harvard University has proven that praying for someone does NOTHING...let's set new rules.

The next time someone asks for your prayers, ask them why. Encourage them to share their story, their grief, their frustration. Then, if there is a tangible way you can help, do so. When my best friend broke her ankle and couldn't work for 3 months, I didn't pray for her recovery. I gave her 500$ to help with the bills she was having a hard time covering because her insurance was only a fraction of her working income.

When a woman asked me to pray for her daugther who was having a surgical birth that morning, I instead went and copied some good info I had on C-section recovery and gave it to the mom to give to the daugther.

Instead of praying for the hungry people of the world, I go through my cupboards and give food to the food bank.

If a kind ACT was performed in place of every single prayer, the world would change dramatically.

Update: November 18, 2009.
Since so many people are convinced that prayer DOES work, why not make a compromise. NO prayers are to be said unless they are also accompanied by an act. Basically you have to pay for the prayer with a deed. That way religious folks can fufull their prayer needs/obligations, and the acts that accompany them change the world.
